Team Pilipinas Turns Back Chinese Taipei

Team Pilipinas avenges its loss from the hands of the Taiwanese in the Jones Cup with a win over the same team, 77-70. Chinese Taipei, leading for the most part of the game, could not sustain its momentum as James Yap, leading the way for the Filipinos,scorches hot, scoring 23 points in the game,with four triples mainly in the pivotal third quarter run that put the team ahead for eight points..but an early run by the Taiwanese early in the fourth quarter tied the score. Willie Miller came to the rescue with key baskets down the stretch. The last one, with a key three-pointer,75-70. Chinese Taipei,could not convert its last attempts in the final seconds, as the Filipinos picked up its third win of the tournament with only lone defeat. Tomorrow will be an acid test for the Filipinos as they will face the reigning FIBA-ASIA Champions IRAN tomorrow.

La Salle won over NCAA Champs San Beda

The De La Salle Green Archers made a gallant effort to trounce the San Beda Red Lions 63-62 in the final four of the Philippine Collegiate Chmpionships. JV Casio, Rico Maeirhofer and Peejay Barua provided the spark for the Archers. Casio made the winning basket on a get away lay-up from Peejay Barua's steal. Maeirhofer paced the Green Archers with 17 points.

Trailing by 15 points in the 2nd quarter, the Archers made a spirited comeback with timely baskets and good defense, nd held on to beat the Red Lions.

Blue Eagles overcome Knights

The Letran Knights has a big heart but the Ateneo Blue Eagles has the bigger heart, as the later won by the slimmest of margin 61-60 to barge in the finals for the Philippine Collegiate Championships. The ever-sensational freshman, ace player Ryan Buenafe made the marginal basket with only 40 seconds remaining into the game. Led by the reigning UAAP MVP Rabeh Al-Hussaini with 24 points.,the Blue Eagles managed to have a big lead. A fiery comeback by the Knights, saw the Blue in a tight situation. A basket by RJ Jazul gave the Knights a one point lead. But Buenafe made the go-ahead basket that turned out to be the winning basket of the game. The Blue Eagles will either face La Salle or San Beda in the finals.
